How do I place an Order?
On our website, there are two different ways to order a cake. There are a couple one-minute video walk-throughs below showing how to navigate each of these options:
our signature cakes, which are already designed and can be lightly customized
our custom cakes, which you can design yourself in a modular fashion, combining all the different design elements that we offer
To receive your cake, you can pick up your order at our kitchen in the Dogpatch neighborhood in San Francisco for no charge, or you can choose delivery within San Francisco for $25.

What flavors do you offer?
You can select a flavor by adding a cake to your cart. We currently offer the following cake flavors, all of which are paired with our signature light brown sugar cake:
BANANA + CINNAMON // perfectly ripened banana buttercream paired with cinnamon-infused cake
HAZELNUT + CHOCOLATE // hazelnut praline buttercream topped with chocolate ganache and toasted hazelnuts
EARL GREY + PINK GRAPEFRUIT // zesty pink grapefruit buttercream paired with earl grey-infused cake
CHOCOLATE + SALTED CARAMEL // 72% dark chocolate ganache buttercream paired with cream cheese salted caramel
MATCHA + STRAWBERRY // organic matcha buttercream paired with roasted strawberry filling
SWEET CREAM + ROASTED BERRIES // raspberry, strawberry, and blueberry compote paired with pure buttercream and sweet cream-soaked cake
PISTACHIO + ROSE // roasted and salted pistachio buttercream paired with a delicate rose syrup infused cake
How far in advance should I order?
We recommend ordering your cake as soon as you know the date that you need it for, as that’s the most surefire way to ensure that we are able to serve you. However, generally, 4 days of advanced notice is enough for our team. At times, we fully book up and post a black announcement bar on our homepage stating what dates are no longer available. If no announcement bar is posted, then we likely have availability.
Note that our shop will be closed for the holidays on the following dates so that our staff can spend time with family:
Thanksgiving: Nov 25, 2019 through Dec 1, 2019
Christmas and New Year’s: Dec 19, 2019 through Jan 2, 2020

How do Pickup and delivery work?
We offer the following pickup and delivery options in the San Francisco Bay Area. For delivery, the price varies depending on the distance from our kitchen plus tolls:

Courier delivery in San Francisco — $25.00
Courier delivery to Daly City — $30.00
Courier Delivery to Millbrae — $40.00
Courier Delivery to Pacifica — $40.00
Courier delivery to Alameda — $45.00
Courier delivery to Oakland — $50.00
Courier Delivery to Berkeley — $55.00
Courier delivery to San Mateo — $55.00
To fulfill delivery, we use a local courier service that has a great track record of delivering our cakes both on-time and in great condition. We always deliver our cakes in a box with a carrying ribbon to protect the cake and make it easy to transport.
If you are not interested in delivery or are outside of the list of cities above, you can pick up your order from our kitchen in the Dogpatch neighborhood of San Francisco for no charge. Once you place your order, we will send you pickup instructions. When you pick up at our kitchen, we come down to your car and help you situate the cake to make things as smooth as possible.
Can I order a fully custom cake?
In our custom studio, you can combine our existing design elements to design your own creation. However, we do not offer any design elements outside of those options.
What is your design policy?
Our aesthetic is modern, minimalist, and precise. This is in response to America's tradition of perpetuating kitschy, traditional, and sloppy cakes. As such, we do not make any replica cakes, such as a cake that looks like a car.
what is your frosting made of?
Our frosting is made from our version of a Swiss meringue buttercream. Our recipe has much lower sugar and butter content than other buttercreams (e.g. American buttercream), which aligns with our desire to make cakes more flavorful rather than simply sweet.
Are your cakes vegan or gluten free?
No, not yet. Our cakes contain ample amounts of real butter (sorry, vegans) and flour (sorry, gluten sensitive folks).
Do you make cupcakes?
No, not anymore. We stopped making cupcakes so that we could focus all of our energy on perfecting our cakes.
Do you ship your cakes nationwide?
No, not yet. Shipping cakes without damage is very difficult, so we do not currently offer that service to ensure that each customer has a great experience whenever they eat a Butter& cake.
HOW LATE CAN I CHANGE THE DESIGN of MY Order?
As long as there are 5 or more days until your cake’s due date, you can request changes to your cake’s design. For example, if your cake is due on a Saturday, the last day you can make changes is on Tuesday of that same week.
What is your cancellation policy?
If you cancel within 7 days of the due date of your cake, we charge you the full price of the cake. If you cancel within 14 days of the due date of your cake, we charge you 50% of the price of the cake. If you cancel with more than 14 days of advance notice of your cake's due date, then we offer you a full refund.
